LunchBox trainee project – from the idea to your own store

A special innovation has been available at the Geratshofen industrial and commercial park since 14 July 2025: The LunchBox – a digitally organised mini-store that trainees and dual students from the LUSINI Group developed and opened independently. In collaboration with Lokbest, provider of the underlying app technology, a smart local supplier was created – planned, designed and operated by trainees.

Starting a business as a learning experience

The aim of the project was to give talented young people from various educational backgrounds – from office management to logistics, e-commerce, IT and marketing – the opportunity to develop a company on their own initiative. Without the legal framework of a GmbH, but with real tasks, clear responsibilities and entrepreneurial freedom, LunchBox was fully designed, structured and implemented within six months. The project phase began in December 2024 with the announcement at the trainee Christmas party. After an intensive period of preparation – including workshops, team building, concept and design development – the project was presented to the LUSINI Group management and approved.

The result: a store that caters specifically to the needs of everyday working life – for a quick snack between meals, spontaneous errands after work or as a quick alternative to the supermarket. Customers will find a carefully curated range of products in the LunchBox:

  • Snacks and drinks – savoury, sweet and energising
  • Hygiene products – from deodorant to toothbrushes
  • Food – such as pasta, oil, rice, flour, oatmeal, ice cream, salami sticks or even 5-minute terrines

Digital, simple, available at any time

The LunchBox is completely app-based: If you want to shop, you download the Lokbest app, check in using a QR code, scan products directly at the shelf and pay using your mobile phone. Shopping only takes a few minutes – without any queues. And best of all, the LunchBox is open daily from midnight to midnight – except on Sundays and public holidays – and the Lokbest app allows you to check which products are currently available before you visit.

Tobias Steinbacher, CFO of the LUSINI Group, explains: “The LunchBox is an excellent example of what practical training can look like in a modern corporate environment. Our trainees have shown entrepreneurial spirit and realised a project that offers real added value – for themselves and for the region.”

Positive feedback also comes from the project team “It was important for us to create something that would really be used. We learnt how to put ideas into practice – and that good teamwork makes everything possible,” says Asli Keskin, an office management trainee.

A concept with perspective

The LunchBox is aimed at employees in the industrial area, commuters, lorry drivers, young adults and anyone who wants to shop quickly and easily. LUSINI is planning to open up the project model to new training programmes in the future – as an integral part of the modern promotion of young talent.

This is how it works:

  1. Download the Lokbest app from the Appstore or Playstore
  2. Check in with QR code in the app
  3. Scan products at the shelf, pay mobile, take away
